Installation & Setup
How do I install Real Categories?
- Click “Add app” from the Shopify App Store
- Authorize the required permissions
- Follow the setup wizard to sync your product categories
Why don’t I see any categories? Make sure your products have categories assigned in Shopify. Go to Products → select a product → scroll to “Product category” and assign a category from Shopify’s taxonomy.
How do I add categories to my navigation menu?
- Open Real Categories from your Shopify admin
- Go to “Add to Menus”
- Select your target menu
- Choose the categories you want to add
- Click “Add to Menu”
Category Pages
Where are my category pages? Category pages are available at yourstore.com/a/categories/[category-name]. Add these links to your navigation menu to make them accessible to customers.
Why aren’t new products showing in category pages? Products should appear immediately after being assigned to a category. If not, try:
- Re-saving the product in Shopify
- Running “Sync Product Counts” from the app dashboard
Can I customize the category page design? The category pages use your theme’s styling. You can also add the Category Navigation block to any page via the Theme Editor.

How do I add the category navigation block?
- Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize
- Select the page where you want to add it
- Click “Add section” or “Add block”
- Find “Category Navigation” under Apps
- Configure the display options
The category block isn’t showing product counts Run “Sync Product Counts” from the app homepage to refresh the counts.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues

| Categories not syncing | Click “Re-sync” on the app homepage |

| Block not visible | Ensure the block is added and the theme is published |
Error Messages
“No categories with products” Your products need to have Shopify product categories assigned. Assign categories to your products first, then sync.
“Shop not found” Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
