Real Categories (“we”, “our”, or “the App”) is operated by Ash Glover Design, based in South Africa. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our Shopify application.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Information We Collect

Through Shopify’s APIs

When you install and use Real Categories, we access the following data from your Shopify store:

  • Store Information: Store name, domain, and email address
  • Product Data: Product titles, categories, and taxonomy classifications
  • Navigation Data: Menu structures and navigation settings

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Customer personal information
  • Payment or financial data
  • Order details
  • Customer browsing behavior

How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

  • Provide the App’s core functionality (category pages and navigation)
  • Sync product categories with Shopify’s taxonomy
  • Generate category navigation menus
  • Improve and maintain the App’s performance

Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption
  • Data is processed on servers located in [REGION – e.g., “the United States and European Union”]
  • We retain your data only for as long as your App subscription is active
  • Upon uninstallation, your data is deleted within 30 days

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties except:

  • Shopify: As required to operate within the Shopify platform
  • Service Providers: Hosting and database services (e.g., Vercel, Turso) that help us operate the App
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Delete your data (right to erasure)
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to certain processing activities
  • Withdraw consent at any time

For South African Users (POPIA)

Under POPIA, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. You may also object to the processing of your personal information.

For EU/UK Users (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have additional rights including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

For California Users (CCPA)

Cookies and Tracking

The App uses minimal cookies solely for:

  • Session management within the Shopify admin
  • Caching navigation data for performance

We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the App or via email.
